KENNETT SQUARE—Two juveniles driving a stolen car led police on a high-speed chase in Kennett Square, and ended in Kennett Township when the car crashed.
Kennett police officers on routine patrol observed a blue Chevy Cobolt pass on Las Rosas Drive on Jan. 15, police said. The vehicle matched the description of a vehicle stolen from Kennett Township earlier in the day.
After officers confirmed the car was stolen, they activated their emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver of the car did not stop. At one point, the vehicle stopped to let a passenger out, and the driver sped off again.
For safety, police discontinued the pursuit, but managed to detain the passenger who exited the fleeing vehicle. A short while later, the vehicle was located by police. It had crashed in the area of Hillendale Road and Creek Road.
The juveniles were both identified and charges were filed through juvenile courts. They were fingerprinted and charges, including a felony charge of fleeing and eluding police, are pending.
Police reports from across the region:
On Jan. 1, 2019 a traffic stop was initiated on Leonardo Bedolla-Lopez for equipment violations and because the driver could not maintain a steady speed. When Bedolla-Lopez rolled down his window, the officer smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. The officer also observed a half-burnt marijuana cigar blunt in an ashtray on the center console. Bedolla-Lopez was asked to exit the vehicle to perform multiple sobriety tests, which he failed. Bedolla-Lopez was transported to Jennersville Hospital for a blood draw. Leonardo Bedolla-Lopez was then transported back to Kennett Square Police Department, where he made contact with a relative to pick him up. The blood sample was submitted for chemical analysis.
