Avon Grove High took part in the 2009 Ches-Mont League Cross Country Championships last Thursday morning at the Westtown School.
All 13 of the league's member schools participated in the boys and girls races, which awarded division and individual titles.
West Chester Henderson won the boys race with 31 points. Unionville finished second with 36 and Downingtown West placed third with 122 points. Avon Grove was 11th out of 13.
Henderson claimed the Ches-Mont's National Division title with its effort, while Unionville won the American Division crown.
Henderson's Will Kellar placed first individually as he crossed the 3.1-mile course in 16 minutes, 6 seconds. He was four seconds faster than teammate Achraf Khattabi (16:10), who took second place.
In the girls race, West Chester Henderson finished first overall with 68 points. Right behind them in second was Downingtown East (69). Unionville took third with 99 points. Avon Grove was last out of 13 teams.
Despite finishing first at the championship meet, Henderson lost out to Downingtown East, as the Cougars won the Ches-Mont National Division title. Unionville, meanwhile, claimed the American Division.
West Chester Henderson sophomore Janie Augustyn captured her second straight individual league title with a time of 18 minutes, 48 seconds. Bishop Shanahan's Kayla Lampe (19:05) was second.
