The Octorara 14-U softball team reached the Diamond Playoffs in the Lancaster County girls fast-pitch league, but fell in the first round, dropping an 8-2 decision to ELCO.Junior Division Little League

The District 23 Little League junior division tournament kicks off this weekend at the Solanco Little League Complex. Octorara starts off with a game against L-S on Sunday, July 6, at 1 p.m.

Football

The Octorara football boosters will be offering a "Summer Basic Skills Camp" for 6th through 9th graders from July 16-18, 5-8 p.m. The camp will take place behind Octorara high school. Cost is $25.

Mandatory Physicals for football at OMS/OHS on July 30, 8 - noon. Players are asked to call the school for an appointment, or use their own doctor.

Soccer

There is a new U-9 Boys LANCO travel soccer team forming at Octorara. The team is looking for six more players who will not turn 9 before Aug. 1, 2008. anyone interested should contact Mr. Simpson at (610) 593-2117 or Ken Baldt ( 717) 442-5628 for a try-out.

Wrestling

The Rubicon Wrestling Club at Solanco is hosting a pair of "mini-tournaments" for wrestlers in grades 7-12. Tournament Director John Little has guaranteed at least two matches for each entrant.

The tournaments are held on four mats in the Solanco wrestling room. Wrestling begins at 6 p.m., with weigh-ins under the Madison system preceding.

First up is a traditional tournament on Thursday, July 17, with periods set at 2-1-1. Then on Thursday, Aug. 7, there will be a take-down tournament. For the takedown tourney; it is one five-minute match, with the best of five takedowns in a match declared the winner.

At both tournaments, there will also be a weight-lifting competition where contestants will try for the most repetitions of half their body weight in the bench press.

The entry fee for each tournament is $5, payable on site.

Coaching vacancies

The Octorara Area School District currently has openings for a Girls JV Soccer Coach, Middle School Volleyball Coach, Varsity Girls Volleyball Coach and Middle School Field Hockey Coach for the upcoming fall 2008 season.
