Six-year-old Sofia Vietri, daughter of Va La Vineyards proprietors Anthony and Karen Vietri, will debut with her first art exhibit at the winery's Galleria beginning Jan. 10 to benefit the Diamond Blackfan Anemia Foundation."I've watched Sofia's interest and talent in art develop as she's begun to grow into a young lady, so I asked her if she would like to have her own exhibit," says Ella Morris, who manages the popular gallery. "She agreed, and asked if we could give proceeds to the foundation, as she has a classmate whose little brother is suffering from the illness. The disease results from the body's inability to produce red blood cells and manifests itself in infancy."
The title of the exhibit, which runs through Jan. 25, is "Imagining the World Around Me," which, according to Miss Vietri, is populated in part by butterflies, fairies and dinosaurs.
"One of the main missions of our gallery is to feature our region's emerging artists, both young and old," said Morris, "although Sofia is by far the youngest artist we have invited to exhibit."
The Galleria, located in a reconverted barn above the tasting room at Va La Vineyards, is located at 8822 Gap Newport Pike (Route 41), just south of Avondale. Galleria hours are 12 to 6 on Thursdays, Fridays, weekends, and certain holidays. For directions, check the Web site at www.valavineyards.com.
