If you've got a classic car, street rod or a 4 x 4, get ready to rev up the engine and show it off at the first car show at Solanco High School to benefit the Renaissance Program.
The car show is open to anyone, including students, and will be held Saturday, May 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the front parking lot facing Route 222. If it rains, the event will be held the following Saturday on May 13.
Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students. Proceeds will go to the Renaissance Program at Solanco, which rewards students for grade point average for the marking period, behavior and attendance. Students who attain a Renaissance card are eligible for rewards such as discounts to local businesses and school events.
Math teacher Ron Hallett is organizing the Renaissance Car Show, which includes three classes; classic cars, 4-wheel drives, and a section for students.
It costs $10 to enter a car in the show. Vehicles should arrive between 8 and 8:45 a.m. Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
"While the car show should be a fun-filled event, displaying cars of all makes and styles, this is not the full purpose of the event," said Hallet. "Too often we focus on the negatives in our society - troubled teens and the issues they face on a daily basis. The Renaissance Program allows us to focus on those students the general public needs to see. The students who consistently do the right thing. This takes both time and money. We have a very dedicated staff and administration willing to do just that, but we need help."
Hallet said, "Come support the program by showing a car or just looking at all the wonderful machines knowing that you also are now a part of recognizing those great teens that live in our community."
