Avon Grove's five townships and two boroughs reorganized in their first meetings of 2006.
Franklin, London Britain, London Grove, New London and Penn townships reorganized Jan. 2 or Jan. 3. The Second Class Township Code, Article VI, Section 602, requires townships to reorganize on the first Monday in January of each year. Townships may reorganize the following day if that Monday is a legal holiday. This year, the first Monday was a legal holiday due to the New Year, thus many townships reorganized on the following day.
Similarly, Subsection 1001 of the Borough Code requires boroughs to reorganize on the first Monday. If that day is a holiday, they may reorganize on the first Tuesday. Avondale reorganized on Jan. 2, and West Grove on Jan. 3.
Board members elected Dick Whipple as chair and Teddy Price as vice chair. Newcomer Roger Wilson took the oath of office as supervisor.
The board re-appointed Debbie Hinderer to the Zoning Hearing Board, and Richard Squadron and Dave Hoffman to the Planning Commission. All other people who held positions in the township were re-appointed.
The board of supervisors will meet on the second and third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the township building, 20 Municipal Lane, just off Appleton Road near the Kemblesville Post Office.
Aileen Parrish took her seat as supervisor. London Britain rotates its chair and vice chair, thus Glenn Frederick became chairman and David Owens became vice chair for 2006.
Supervisors appointed Jim Shanahan and John Steichen as Zoning Hearing Board alternates. Carolyn Matalon was appointed township secretary and Sally Cheyne was appointed secretary of open space and natural resources. Board members chose William Hutchings to fill a vacancy on the Parks and Recreation Board.
The other people who held positions in the township were re-appointed.
The board of supervisors will meet the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the township building, 81 Good Hope Road.
Newcomers William Welsh and David Eckerd were sworn in as the newest members of the Board of Supervisors.
The board elected Tom Houghton as chair and elected Edward Bordas as vice chair.
Houghton removed himself from the Planning Commission, and the board appointed Eckerd as its liason for the commission.
Board members appointed Joanne DiJoseph as the township's tax collector.
James Ryan stepped down from the Zoning Hearing Board, and the township is looking for a replacement.
Board members appointed Chuck Freese as the emergency management coordinator and Charles Harrison as the assistant emergency management coordinator.
All other appointees were re-appointed to their positions.
In addition to a member for the Zoning Hearing Board, Township officials are also looking for members for the Historical Commission and for the Board of Appeals. The board of supervisors will hold its regular meetings on the first Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m. and its workshop sessions on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the township building, 902 State Road, half a mile east of Route 896.
Supervisors elected Curtis Mason as chairman and Henry McKinney as vice chairman.
They appointed Stephen Selinger and Thomas Sinsheimer to the Planning Commission to replace Edward A. Bartels Jr., who is no longer on the board.
Frank Roberts was appointed to replace Jane Tripp as a member of the Zoning Hearing Board.
Supervisors appointed Spence Andress to the new post of ACT 537 Sewage Planning.
They appointed David Nunn, Herbert MacCombie, Raymond Mackey and Carlton Snow as members of the
Board of Appeals and Calvin Bonenberger as the alternate.
Scott McGibbon is no longer on the board.

Newcomer Patrick Harrison was sworn in as the newest council member.
Council members elected Jesse Pusey as president and Fred Bryan as vice president.
