Fire and Ambulance Service grant applications now available, says HersheyState Rep. Art Hershey (R-Chester) is encouraging local volunteer fire departments and volunteer ambulance services to apply for thousands of dollars in state grant funding.
Fire and ambulance service grants are used to improve and enhance capabilities of vital emergency preparedness services such as construction or renovation of a unit's station, the purchase or repair of equipment, training or debt reduction.
Last year, the General Assembly passed Act 10 of 2007 to establish funding for two fiscal years: 2006-07 and 2007-08, effectively doubling the maximum amount a grant recipient could collect.
This year, however, grant funding levels will return to previous levels-$15,000 for volunteer fire companies and $10,000 for volunteer ambulance services. A total of $25 million will be given to volunteer fire and ambulance companies.
Applications are now available online from the Office of the State Fire Commissioner. The office is maintaining a strict deadline for the program and no applications will be accepted after Friday, Oct. 17.
