One of two men who arrived at the city police department with gunshot wounds early Sunday morning has a history of weapons and drug offenses, according to court documents.Arthur "Torrie" Smith, 28, who has addresses in Coatesville and Philadelphia, has served time for various offenses in the Philadelphia region since 1998.
In May, he was released from Chester County Prison after serving time for violating parole after a firearms conviction. Smith pleaded guilty in 2004 after Coatesville police arrested him in the 700 block of Merchant Street for unlawful possession of a.357 magnum.
Three weeks after completing his sentence for that conviction, Smith was arrested in January 2006 in Berks County and served a state prison sentence after pleading guilty to drug offenses.
Smith and another city man, Tylil Smith, 19, of unknown relation, arrived at the city police station in a bullet-riddled Mercedes with gunshot wounds reportedly sustained while the two men were in the car at North Seventh Avenue and Lumber Street. The car was not registered to either man, police said.
Tylil Smith was subsequently released from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Police reported Arthur Smith was flown to Reading Hospital, though hospital officials declined to either confirm or deny his presence or treatment there.
Chester County detectives performed preliminary forensics, and Coatesville police are investigating the incident.
