KENNETT SQUARE — Like most restaurants in the nation, the pandemic has hit Kennett area eateries especially hard.

And although the additional coronavirus mitigation measures put in place in mid-December expired Monday, allowing indoor dining to resume on a limited basis, it will be quite some time until restaurants see enough traffic to regain profitability.

So members of the Longwood Rotary Club, which typically donate tens of thousands of dollars to worthy community projects every year, decided to help local restaurants, many of which had to lay off workers as they remain in survival mode.

Called Grub Grab, the civic organization is selling tickets priced at $20 each. The top prize is $2,500 in gift cards to 48 Kennett area restaurants. Second prize is $1,500 in gift cards and third prize is $500 in gift cards. The fourth through 13th prizes are $100 in gift cards. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold.

“Our Grub Grab FUN-raising event is both a lot of fun and beneficial to our community in many ways," said Steve Maley, event chair for the Longwood Rotary Club. "This event will allow the Longwood Rotary Club to raise money to support our incredible community service efforts. It will also help us promote our local restaurants as they strive to thrive in the COVID business environment.”

The proceeds of the contest benefit Longwood Rotary Club initiatives for families in need during the pandemic in the greater Kennett community.

Tickets can be purchased at First Citizens Community Bank, 741 West Cypress St, Kennett Square, or Hood's BBQ, 1664 West Doe Run Road in Unionville. Tickets can also be obtained via mail by sending a check to Lynn Nathan, 101 Fox Fell Drive, Kennett Square, 19348. Checks should be made out to Longwood Rotary Foundation. Tickets can also be obtained by calling Nathan at 610-608-7420.

Drawing will be broadcast live on Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. from the Liberty at Market Place and can be viewed at Facebook.com/LongwoodRotaryPA.

"The needs in our community are enormous right now," Nathan said. "As we continue our services in 2021, it has become clear that we are going to continue to need to be flexible in our approach to fundraising."
