Hilton Garden invests $1.2 million in upgrades

EAST MARBOROUGH - Hilton Garden Inn's Kennett Square location has completed a $1.2 million renovation, essentially gutting all 92 rooms and installing new flooring, vanities, furniture, wallpaper, beds and flat-screen TVs.

'We really wanted to make sure our offering here was as competitive as others in the market,' said Andrew Harp, director of revenue management for the hotel chain. 'It's been 10 years since our last improvement.'

In addition, the hotel installed revitalized common areas with new carpet, wall vinyl, furniture, window treatments, artwork and accents. The lobby and lounge was overhauled and now features a 37-inch high-definition TV, a fireplace and new comfortable lounge chairs.

And the old TVs in every room were replaced with high-definition 37-inch models that receive more channels. The expanded TV programming now offers more than 50 channels including ESPN, CNN, HBO and a selection of HD channels.

'Our guests are excited about the new TVs,' said Lori Gebert, general manager of the hotel. 'All in all, the new rooms give a much brighter look and modern feel. This project was important to the guests and staff of the Hilton Garden Inn. We are very excited to be able to offer guests traveling to Kennett the most modern and comfortable accommodations possible.'

Gebert said the inn's guests are an even split between leisure travelers headed to Longwood Gardens or weddings at such places as the Stone Barn or business travelers with meetings at nearby Exelon, Genesis Healthcare in Kennett Square or Dansco in Jennersville.

The newly renovated rooms feature an earth-tone decor in almond and chocolate tones, Garden Sleep System beds unique with 'dial your comfort functionality,' new artwork, French pleated 'blackout' curtains and in-room hospitality stations with microwave, mini-fridge and coffeemaker, and oversized lounge chairs with matching ottomans.

Rooms also have spacious desks accompanied with ergonomic Herman Miller chairs, data ports and Wi-Fi.

Guests can also enjoy free wireless Internet throughout the building.

The improvements come just a little more than a year since the Fairfield Inn & Suites opened less than a half-mile away.

The Hilton Garden Inn is owned and managed by Longwood Land Development, an affiliate of the Kennett Square-based firm the Onix Group.

The three-story hotel features a mix of suites, two large meeting rooms, an indoor pool, whirlpool, on-site restaurant, sundry convenience shop and large lobby. Since opening its doors in the community, the Hilton served as a home away from home for more than 500,000 visitors.
