KENNETT SQUARE—Taylor Hicks, one of the most popular American Idol winners of all time, will be giving a concert in Kennett Square Saturday, and will debut a few songs from his upcoming album.

“This is going to be an intimate show,” Hicks said. “I love doing up-close and personal shows.”

Hicks will be performing Saturday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. at Anson B. Nixon Park in Kennett Square. Gates open at 3 p.m. and Hicks will take the stage at 4 p.m. There will be food trucks and beer and wine sales. Pets are prohibited.

Hicks said he will be performing a few numbers from his upcoming album due out this spring.

“This will be a very roots-oriented album, and I’ll be trying a couple of those (songs) in Kennett Square,” Hicks said. “When I say roots, I’m thinking of a soulful country vibe. It’s who I am as an artist, and I think people will really take to it.

Hicks, 43, got his start as a professional musician in his late teens and performed around the Southeastern United States for more than a decade, during which he also released two independent albums. Upon winning the fifth season of American Idol, he was signed to Arista Records, under which his self-titled major label debut was released in late 2006.

Hicks, who has a net worth of $2 million, performs a unique blend of Southern soul, R&B, and country and blues.

“I think if Zac Brown and Jackson Browne had a kid, it would be me,” Hicks said. “I plan on giving a great performance Saturday.”

Hicks said he will be taking requests for the Kennett Square concert.

Tickets are $25 advance lawn admission, $30 day of show, and $40 for VIP seating which includes general admission, and table and chair seats close to the stage.

Hicks’ debut single, “Do I Make You Proud” climbed to number one on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop 100 and Single Sales charts. His self-titled album debuted at Number 2 on the Billboard 200 and was quickly certified RIAA Platinum.

On Broadway, Hicks starred in the hit musical, ”Grease” as Teen Angel, and when asked to join the national tour, happily agreed. The 18-month tour connected him with fans across North America. Hicks has also performed with artists like Willie Nelson, Snoop Dogg, Gladys Knight, Earth Wind and Fire and The Allman Brothers, appearing in concerts worldwide.
