The coaches at KMC Gymnastics & Dance knew how good its boys team was, but even they were stunned at the results of the Pennsylvania State Championships when they walked away with just the second super team trophy in its history.

Just a year removed from a Delaware Scholastic Hockey Association (DSHA) championship with Avon Grove, Billy Dixson added another title to his collection April 5.

In his freshman year at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg, Dixson joined the D-III ice hockey team and found himself lifting the Founder's Cup.

WEST GOSHEN - The pads were out and masks were on for a free goaltending clinic held by former professional goalie Dave Marlin Sunday afternoon at IceLine.

It may have been a fun-filled day for the students in attendance, but it was a little bittersweet as part of the clinic was awarding three scholarships to Marlin's summer camp in honor of Jon Whitacre, a young goaltender who perished in a plane crash last summer.

HEADstrong began on a hospital bed by young Nicholas Colleluori, who endured a 14-month battle with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, a blood cancer, before he passed away.

WEST GOSHEN - Even with a team short five members for the Flyers Cup, the Unionville High School girls ice hockey team continued to roll through the season, this time knocking out West Chester East by a final of 6-0 in the semifinal round on Monday night at IceLine.

With a shortened bench due to the rules of the tournament (only high school players are eligible), the girls made sure they were more focused than usual coming into the game.

WEST GOSHEN - The Unionville High School girls ice hockey team held the best record in the Inter County Scholastic Hockey League girls division during the regular season and capped off their sweet season with a championship trophy on Monday night.

It was a classic battle of the division's best offense in Conestoga against the division's best defense in Unionville and in this case, defense won as Unionville skated away with the championship trophy after a 5-2 win.

WEST GOSHEN - Coming into the semifinal game, the Unionville High School girls ice hockey team averaged five goals per game, but they needed just one to beat Lansdale Catholic in the Inter Country Scholastic Hockey League playoff opener on Thursday night at IceLine.

On the other side of the ice, Unionville's defense allowed only 22 goals all season, the fewest in the division.

It has been a long run for the Avon Grove boys hockey team.

After winning the Delaware Scholastic Hockey Association varsity championship last season, the boys were looking to defend their title once again.

"It was a good season," said head coach Jim Este. "Looking back on the season, our defense just matured so much and there were some seniors driving that in Tommy Oranzi and Mike Rogers.
