EAST MARLBOROUGH -- The skies were bright over Longwood Gardens on Friday night as an estimated 6,000 spectators honored the nationís 238th birthday with cheers and applause during the annual Independence Day fireworks display.

Longwood offered a full platter, not only with the show from above, but with refreshments, fountains, a barbecue and patriotic music throughout.

Although the show was heavily attended, a parking team kept a traffic jam from erupting both in and out.

Visitors were asked either to bring chairs of rent them at the gardens, and that arrangement helped keep the crowd orderly.

The show began at 9:15 p.m. and ended shortly before 10 p.m., entertaining visitors of all ages and many tongues.
