Kennett After Prom hosting Valentine's dinner and dance

Courtesy of Kennett After Prom The Valentine's dinner and dance fundraiser on Feb. 15 will go directly to this year's After Prom event for Kennett students.

Instead of the usual dinner out for that someone special on Feb. 14, the Kennett After Prom Incorporated is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner and dance Saturday, Feb. 15.

“All You Need is Love,” the name of the dance, will be held at the Hartefeld National Country Club in Avondale from 7 to 11 p.m.

“It’s the largest fundraiser for the After Prom that we have,” said After Prom volunteer Jennifer England. “This is usually a high-attended event.”

The event isn’t geared just toward Kennett parents, but to anyone in the community willing to have a fun night while helping After Prom and the students of Kennett High.

In years past, the dance has drawn a crowd of over 50 couples and After Prom is hoping for more of the same this year.

The entertainment for the evening will be provided by Good Foot, a dance rock party band which had earned the rising star award for top R&B band on GigMasters in 2009, 2010 and 2011. To top it off, the lead vocalist is none other than Leon Spencer, Borough Councilman for Kennett Square.

The event includes heavy Hors d’Oeuvres, a carving station and a cash bar, all provided by the country club.

There will also be a silent auction during the evening featuring gift baskets from local merchants.

All proceeds from ticket sales go to After Prom as they prepare for Kennett students to enjoy.

“We provide a safe, supervised environment that is drug and alcohol free for high schools students to celebrate after prom,” England said. “The budget for the After Prom usually runs around $20,000. There’s food for the kids, there are activities like laser tag, moon bounces and a photo booth.”

The proceeds also provide for the prizes for raffle drawings and such at the After Prom.

After Prom has been a success with students over the years as last year drew over 200 students once the dance had ended.

Tickets are still available and are $75 per person and can be purchased in advance on the After Prom website ( or at the door. It is open seating at the event.

In the case of inclement weather, all ticket sales will be donated to After Prom. The event won’t be rescheduled.

After Prom Incorporated is also still in search of volunteers or monetary donations for the Valentine’s dance. If you would like to help, please contact Karen Uhle at
