Kennett football will be AAAA in 2010 and 2011
By Brad Spahr
In the fall of 2010 Kennett High School will enter just its sixth year of fielding a varsity football team.
Kennett, who went 4-7 overall this year, has been unable to finish a season above five hundred so far. And now, the task will get even tougher for the Blue Demons in the future.
Since its program came back following an 89-year hiatus in 2005, Kennett has been more than competitive against school's its size. They've struggled, however, against some of the bigger programs out there.
Next year, Kennett will be forced to move to the highest level of competition for football, Class AAAA, after spending its first five years at the 3A level.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association announced last week that every school in the state with at least 513 boys enrolled (in grades nine through eleven) will be the cutoff to compete at the 4A level.
Kennett has 517 boys and will be slated to play Class AAAA football for, at the time being, at least the 2010 and 2011 seasons until a new enrollment cutoff is established.
In comparison to Kennett's 517 boys, North Penn has 1,538 boys and Coatesville has the most in the county with 823.
