Democrats fought sprawl, composter and bypass

By State Rep. Tom Houghton

Republican committee person, Mike Mooney, went on the attack against me while thanking London Grove voters for electing his candidates, Grandizio and Hittenger in a letter to the Avon Grove Sun.

Since the 2001 election, our bi-partisan team has been consistent on the following issues:

1. Keeping sprawl-inducing sewer and water out of London Grove - North;

2. Opposing irresponsible industrial composters while supporting responsible ones;

3. Fighting against the construction of two elevated bypasses.

Over this same period, our opponents have always avoided giving their stance on these issues in writing. So, I did tell Mr. Mooney at the polls that a few of the pre-election op-eds submitted by Bordas/Vanella supporters, were in fact attempts to prod his candidates to see where they stood. Ten days out from the election and they still failed to put anything in writing.

Bordas and Vanella were the only candidates to respond to the League of Women Voters Survey that ran in the newspaper and they were the only candidates with a Web site laying out their positions. Candidates owe it to the voters to declare where they stand. Unfortunately, Mr. Mooney only cares about getting candidates of his party elected. In 2007, at the polls during my re-election campaign for supervisor, he stood in front of our "issues" display board and berated me on each issue.

This past Election Day, he declared to voters that "his guys will fight irresponsible composting, save our agricultural zone and block the bypasses" when we all knew this is certainly not
I really do hope that the two newly elected supervisors continue and not end the fight that Mr. Mooney, their supporter/manager, truly wants to end. Let's not roll back the clock in London Grove Township. Also, let's continue to make the hiring of staff and appointments to boards and commissions be about the individual and not the party. Bill Grandizio and Bob Hittenger, congratulations and I look forward to working with you to keep London Grove on track.

" Tom -

The reason your guys lost is because the folks in LG understand the New Jersey Round Abouts do not work! The composting issue didn't work this time! We all know that the Dem's are well funded in this area and the Rep's are not so they have a harder time getting the word out about the socialist agenda your folks are trying to put in place! "

" Bobwpga,
Jersey has circles PA has roundabouts which are approved and recommended by the dept of transportation. Unfortunately, what you fail to realize, is the roundabout was a strategy to prevent a bypass which is what the state wants given population density projections along the RT 41 corridor. If you’re not for a roundabout you are for a bypass. "
