UHS beats rival Kennett in showdown of undefeated Ches-Mont volleyball teams
By Brad Spahr
First place was on the line last Thursday night when Kennett and Unionville got together for a Ches-Mont League high school volleyball match.
Always an intense battle when the two archrivals square off, it was magnified this time around due to the fact that both squads came in sporting perfect 4-0 records in the league.
When all was said and done, though, it was Unionville who kept its undefeated league mark intact as the Indians posted a 3-1 win over Kennett by scores of 25-14, 23-25, 26-24, 25-20 last Thursday at Kennett High School.
Unionville (5-0 league) took over sole possession of first place in the Ches-Mont League's American Division with the victory. Kennett, meanwhile, dropped to 4-1 and into second place. The two rivals will meet once more in their regular season finales on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
Unionville was led by Chelsea Rafetto (28 assists), Shannon Donaghy (nine kills), Rachel Fink (eight kills) and Susie Pancoast (three blocks) in the win.
Kennett received strong games from Julianne Eklund (34 digs), Madison Dietz (18 digs) and Katrina Sungail (eight kills).
