17 Unionville seniors named National Merit semifinalists

East Marlborough >> Seventeen Unionville High School seniors have been named as 2018 National Merit semifinalists. They are:

Eric Folmer, Ryan Hastings, Allison Herr, Michael Iacocca, Suchi Jain, Elaine Li, David Linskens, Leah Narun, Amit Pampati, Ethan Pan, Sachi Patel, Harini Peri, Arushi Sahay, Ahmed Shahzad, Richard Shin, Ashwin Singh and Nicholas Taylor.

The following 23 seniors have been named as 2018 National Merit Commended:

John Benintende, Andrew Binder, Holdne Collison, Alastair Detweiler, Madison Doucette, Kaelyn Gaza, Daniel Hopping, Nicole Horan, Austin Hwa, Kyle Lacey, Rose Lacey, Erica Lane, Amber Liu, Jonathan Nguyen, Brett Nilsen, Julia Pyun, Stewart Short, Keith Simmons, Elizabeth Summers, Katelyn Tsai, Eli Weisman, Shuhan Yin and Julia Zorab.

“The 40 commended and semifinalists represents the most ever honored in one year at Unionville,” said Jimmy Conley, Unionville High School principal.

There were over 1.6 million students from more than 22,000 high schools who took the PSAT/NMSQT test last October, and these students are among the 16,000 semifinalists.

National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four nationwide events beginning in April, 2018 and ending in jUly. These scholarship recipients will join more than 330,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the prestigious Merit Scholar title.
