Local girl scouts clean cemetery

Girl Scouts from the Brandywine Valley Service Unit’s troops 41221, 41553, 41072, 41865, and 41824 performed Community Service by participating in a cleanup of the historic Bucktoe cemetery . The 30 + scouts earned a special Historic Site Restoration badge by locating the site, hiking there, cleaning the site, learning about the history of the early UAME church site and its African-American Civil War veterans, sketching images of how the site appeared in the 1800’s, and making gravestone rubbings. Paige Minka of the Land Conservancy for Southern Chester County organized the activities, and Crystal Crampton, a representative from the current church spoke to the girls. Lois Weyer acted as the liaison for the Girl Scouts. Girl Scouts from the local Service Unit participate in numerous community service projects throughout the year.
