WEST GROVE -- The children of the Avon Grove area will have plenty to do this summer thanks to the Avon Grove Library.

On Saturday, there was a big party to kick off the fun, beginning with a double performance by magicians Richard and Joanne Gustafson in the building’s community room.

The Gustafsons, who are returning after several years at the summer kick-off, delighted a room full of kids and their parents with puzzling and funny sleight-of-hand tricks. At several points in the performance, he enlisted the aid of children and their parents to hold things, pull cards of draw pictures.

The children shrieked with delight as Richard Gustafson pulled a toy rabbit out of a box, closed the box, discovered it burning and then recaptured the rabbit in another box at the back of the room.

The Gustafsons performed at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to capacity crowds.

After the performances, the children had a variety of projects to try, including making their own ice cream sundaes, coloring pictures, stringing beads, face painting, reading books on magic. All day they had the chance to sign up for the summer reading program, which, after they signed on, provided each child a T-shirt.

In addition to regular meetings and the availability of the books for the reading program, the library has special events scheduled.
