LOWER OXFORD – The Oxford Area School Board has appointed member Jason Brady as their president for the new year, replacing Joseph Scheese who did not wish to serve another year in that position. Brady also served as board president prior to Scheese.
“I look forward to the opportunity. I think we’re going to have some unique challenges this year in identifying people for key positions, filling the key positions and working toward getting the strategic plan going again with the new superintendent,” Brady said following the meeting. “The focus is on education, getting the school programs going and making sure the school improvement plans are being executed.”
In addition to Brady’s appointment, the board made member Joseph Tighe the new vice president and appointed Dominic Pirocchi to the Chester County School Board Legislative Council.
Following the reorganization portion of the meeting there was a brief update on the beginning stages of the search for a new district superintendent to replace Raymond Fischer when he retires next year.
The superintendent search is being conducted at no charge by the Chester County Intermediate Unit. CCIU Executive Director Joseph O’Brien was on hand at the meeting. “We’re going to work very hard to get a great superintendent of the Oxford Area School District,” he said.
To keep the public apprised of the progress of the superintendent search, a link will be posted on the district web site. It will include a time line and information about focus groups that will be set up after the start of the new year.
All segments of the community will be included in the focus groups that will eventually lead to a profile of what is desired in the ideal candidate for Superintendent. “The purpose is to leave the last focus group with a clear idea of what the district is looking for in a superintendent,” O’Brien said. “If you want to have a voice in this process, this is the best way.”
Board meetings for the coming year are set for Thursday nights, with the monthly work session on the second Thursday and the regular meeting on the third Thursday of the month. For December, the work session and regular meeting are being combined into a single meeting set for Thursday, Dec. 20.
