Following too close

No one was injured in a rear-end collision on route 1 east of School House Road in East Marlborough Township on June 14 at 7:05 p.m. Joseph Varano, 39, of Kennett Square collided with the car in front of him when that car stopped in heavy traffic, police said.

Shaneika Dungee, 24, of Chester was not injured when her car caught fire after she stopped it on the shoulder of Route 1 east of Parkerville Road in Pennsbury Township on June 13 at 11:37 p.m., police said.

Sean McDermott, 32, of West Chester was not injured when his car struck an embankment after he ran a stopsign on School House Road at Route 926 in East Marlborough Township on June 14 at 2:02 p.m., police said.

A 17-year-old male driver failed to negotiate a curve on Route 82 orth of Route 841 in West Marlborough Township on June 13 at 5:40 p.m.

Four vehicles were broken into in the area of Barney and Thistle roads in West Grove on June 12 between 1 and 2 a.m. and objects taken, police said.

Someone stole $300 worth of groceries from a food store in the 800 block of West Baltimore Pike in Penn Township, left the store with the two baskets and escaped in a gray Dodge Avenger on May 21 and May 31, police said.

Brent Adam Mains of West Grove was arrested for DUI on Market Street at Railroad Avenue in Oxford on June 18 at 9:03 p.m., police said.

Alfonso Morales, 48, of Avondale collided with a driver on Pennsylvania Avenue in Avondale on June 19 at 6:35 a.m. as he pulled in front of another car and struck it, police said.

Michelle Walker, 37, of Rising Sun, Md., crossed the center line on Newark Road near Spencer Road in West Marlborough Township on June 12 at 4:17 p.m. and struck an oncoming vehicle. The struck vehicle went off the roadway and rolled on its side. No one was injured, police said.

Denise MIchell Thomas, 39, of Oxford failed to secure her dogs, and the dogs strayed off and attacked two victims in the 100 block of Scroggy Road in Lower Oxford Township on June 19 at 6:30 p.m., police said.

Catherine Combs-Ruoss, 21, of West Chester failed to stop at a stop sign and was found to be DUI on June 14 at 5:35 p.m. on 5th Street in East Nottingham Township, police said.

Stacey Campbell Farrell, 41, of West Grove was arrested for retail theft at a food store in the 800 block of West Baltimore Pike in Penn Township on June 24 at 11:22 a.m., police said.

Elizabeth Morales, 46, of Wilmington veered off the roadway and hit a guardrail on Route 1 in Upper Oxford Township on June 24 at 7:45 p.m. The car crossed both northbound lanes and came to rest in the shoulder, police said.

One passenger of the striking vehicle suffered a minor injury as Urbano Sosa-Armilla, 63, of Wilmington failed to stop at a stop sign on Baltimore Pike at Route 896 and struck another vehicle. The struck vehicle sustained disabling damage, police said.

Steve Savell, 51, of Newport, Del., was weaving in and out of traffic on his motorcycle on Route 1 intersection with Cypress Street in Kennett Township on June 22 at 5:57 p.m. He lost control and rolled the bike into a grass median, suffering life-threatening injuries, police said.

Someone stole a bicycle from the 30 block of Chartwell Road in London Grove Township on June 22 at 6:03 p.m., police said.

Kyle Andrew Rodgers ,21, of Cochranville was arrested for theft of jewelry in the 600 block of Jennersville Road in Londonderry Township on June 22 at 5:30 p.m., police said.

Rey Ayllon Castaneda, 26, of Toughkenamon was injured in a vehicle crash on East Baltimore Pike at McFarlan Road in Kennett Township on June 23 at 6:57 p.m. He was later found to be DUI, police said.

Someone struck a utility pole while driving a 1998 Cadillac at the southeast corner of Wet Cypress Street and Sam Lane in Kennett Township on June 24 at 7:33 a.m., police said.

New Garden Township:

Juan Pantoja-Garcia, 46 of Kennett Square, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and related offenses following an incidient in the 100 block of Pine Street in Toughkenamon on June 13, police said.

Sevell Broadnax, 21, of North Chicago Il., and Bobby Appleton, 25, of Akron Ohio, were cited for soliciting in the township without the proper permit, police said.

Agustin Duran-Martinez, 31 of Kennett Square, was charged with assault and related offenses following a domestic incident in the 300 block of Cedar Springs Road on June 30, police said.

Michael Cariola, 34 of Coatesville, was arrested for possession of heroin and related offenses following an incident the 1300 block of Newark Road on June 21, police said.

New Garden Township Police are investigating several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Bancroft Woods development occurring overnight on June 14. All the vehicles had been left unlocked. Items taken ranged from money, electronics and tools. Residents throughout the Township are reminded to secure their vehicles, remove valuables and articles with personal information, such as licenses and/or credit cards from their vehicle or from plain sight. The New Garden Township Police Department further requests that citizens report any suspicious activity by calling 610-268-3171 or 911.
