Kennett Square >> Kennett Township Police Department and Longwood Fire Company embarked on its first ever Warm Coat Drive. The coat drive turned out to be great success with the help from the local townships and multiple nonprofit organizations in the area. “We were very excited at the response from the greater community to participate in this drive with us, this is a great example on ways governmental agencies, public/private companies, and individuals can come together to show compassion for our community,” Kennett Township Police Chief Lydell Nolt said.
“Kendal~Crosslands Communities joined the partnership as soon as we heard about it,” said Michele Berardi, director of community outreach. “It’s our values of reaching out to the wider community, it’s who we are, and staff and residents responded to the call with overwhelming donations.”
The coat drive started on Oct. 23 and went until Nov. 12. Coats of all sizes were collected, however the necessity for infants and young boys coats was emphasized as there is often a need for them. Mittens, gloves, scarves, socks, and other winter apparel were also collected. All of the generous donations will go to families in need and other local charities.
“We were overjoyed with the response from the public. Their generosity is what helps makes community projects like these a great success. We couldn’t thank them enough for helping keep everyone in our community warm this winter season,” said Longwood Fire Chief A.J. McCarthy.
For over 40 years, Kendal~Crosslands has been a nonprofit provider of programs and services that advocates for and empowers older adults to achieve their full potentials. Nestled on close to 500 acres in the Kennett area, Kendal~Crosslands is a continuing care retirement community.
