On July 8, 2014 at 11 p.m, police observed a vehicle travelling on Baltimore Pike with an equipment violation. The vehicle was followed and observed to drive over the center lines and off the travel portion of the roadway. A traffic stop was conducted and contact made with the driver, Miguel Martinez-Zavala, 30 of Kennett Square. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on Martinez-Zavala’s breath as he spoke with slurred speech and his eyes were observed to be glassy and bloodshot. Field sobriety tests were conducted and showed signs of alcohol impairment. Martinez-Zavala was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI after a PBT had a positive reaction for alcohol. Martinez-Zavala refused to submit to a chemical test of blood after failing to provide a breath sample. He was released pending an appearance at district court.

On July 11, at 9:32 pm, police were dispatched to a two vehicle accident at Gap Newport Pike and Limestone Road. A vehicle travelling northbound on Gap Newport Pike crossed the double yellow center lines and sideswiped another vehicle travelling southbound. Upon speaking to the operator of the striking vehicle, George DeRitter III, 21 of Landenberg a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his person. He had bloodshot, glassy eyes and admitted to drinking beer. Field Sobriety Tests were conducted and showed signs of alcohol impairment. DeRitter III was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. He was released pending an appearance at district court.

On July 13, 2014 at 10:27 pm, police responded to the 500 block of Buena Vista Drive for the report of a disturbance. The actor was described as short and heavyset, wearing a black shirt and he appeared to be intoxicated. Upon arrival the actor was located and identified as Alfredo Arizaga, 20 of Kennett Square. Arizaga admitted to drinking and punching the victim in the face. The victim related that Arizaga approached him upon returning home from work and told him, “you’re dead”, then punched him the face and back of his neck when he turned to run away. A witness saw and heard the incident from an upstairs window. Arizaga was taken into custody for simple assault and terroristic threats. He was arraigned the following morning and released on $250 bail.

KENNETT SQUARE

Kennett Square Police cited a 15-year-old male of Kennett Square and a 15-year-old Female of Avondale for underage drinking and curfew violation after they were observed walking in the 600 block West State Street on June 15 at 2:34 am. The male juvenile was released to his parent and the female Juvenile was released to state police.

Sometime overnight June 15, the windshield of a vehicle parked in the parking lot located in the 100 block North Broad Street was smashed in.

Kennett Square Police cited Ronnie Brunson, 53, and Joseph Cook, 48, both of Kennett Square, for harassment following an altercation between the two on June 16 at 7:09 pm in the 300 block East Linden Street.

Kennett Square Police arrested Jason Miller, 37, Coatesville, for theft and receiving stolen property on June 18 at 11:20 am. While in the victim’s residence in the 500 block Center Street between 9:15 am and 10:15 am replacing a fire extinguisher, Miller stole a Bose SoundDock, police said. Miller was video-arraigned and released on $5,000 unsecured bail.

Kennett Square police arrested Gabriel Zavala-Zavala, 50, Kennett Square, for DUI following a traffic stop at State and Broad streets on June 19 at 8:56 p.m. Zavala-Zavalawas released at his residence pending summons.

Kennett Square Police cited Ricardo Cuevas-Marquez, 22, West Grove, for disorderly conduct on June 29 at 9 p.m. after he was observed playing his vehicle radio extremely loud at State and Broad streets.

Sometime overnight June 29, damage was done to a fence located in the 100 block West Mulberry Street.

Kennett Square Police arrested Turner Simon 21, Kennett Square, PA, for DUI following a traffic stop on June 21 at 3:40 am in the 300 block West Mulberry Street. Simon was released at his residence pending summons from District Court.

Kennett Square PD arrested Armando Camacho-Lopez, 19, Kennett Square, for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was observed with a marijuana cigarette, “blunt”, displayed behind his ear while walking in the area of Lafayette Street and Scarlett Avenue on June 21 at 12:29 pm. Camacho-Lopezwas released pending summons from District Court.

Kennett Square PD cited Isidro Almanza, 54, Kennett Square, for disorderly conduct after police were called twice to his residence in the 400 block of East South Street on June 21 for loud music.

Sometime overnight June 20, a tire was punctured on a vehicle parked in the 500 block Richards Road.
