NEW GARDEN

On March 28, 2014 at 12:58 a.m., a New Garden Township police officer observed a vehicle driving erratically in the 9100 block of Gap Newport Pike. The Toyota was observed to cross the center double yellow lines on multiple occasions and the white fog line twice. A traffic stop was conducted in the 8700 block of Gap Newport Pike and contact made with the driver, Newell Everett, 55, of New Holland. Everett openly stated he had been drinking and knew he had crossed the center lines. Everett was observed to have red glassy eyes and a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from the vehicle. Roadside field sobriety tests and a PBT revealed signs of alcohol impairment. Everett was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and after being processed was released pending an appearance at Magisterial District Court 15-4-04, police said.

On March 28, 2014 at 2:16 a.m., a New Garden Township police officer was on patrol in the area of West Baltimore Pike and Scarlett Road when they observed a vehicle approaching from behind failing to dim its headlights. The vehicle passed the officer at a high rate of speed and continued at speeds in excess of the 45 mph limit. A traffic stop was conducted at West Baltimore Pike and Buena Vista Drive. Upon approach to the vehicle, the driver was observed to be unrestrained and the sole occupant. The officer made contact with Francisco Zavala-Cortes, 22, of Kennett Square. A strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was coming from inside the vehicle. Zavala-Cortes answered that he had had a couple drinks. After showing signs of alcohol impairment during Field Sobriety Tests, Zavala-Cortes was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. After being processed, Zavala-Cortes was released pending an appearance at Magisterial District Court 15-4-04, police said..

On March 28, 2014 at 10:48 p.m., a New Garden Township police officer received a walk-in report of a domestic incident that occurred in the 900 block of Newark Road. The victim related that her husband asked her for money and when she refused he threatened to kill her. Her small children began to cry out of fear so she gave her husband $40. When the husband left the room, the victim took the children and fled from the house. The husband followed and screamed for the victim to open the car door while pulling on the handle. The handle broke and the victim drove away without any further incident. A warrant was obtained for Jose Morales, 42, of Toughkenamon on charges of terroristic threats and harassment. Morales was taken into custody the following morning and was arraigned by Judge Michaels of Magisterial District Court 15-2-01. Morales was remanded to Chester County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail, police said.

KENNETT SQUARE

Kennett Square policecited Joseph Lownes, 26, Kennett Square for public drunkenness on Sunday, March 16, at 2:10 a.m. in the 100 block West State Street. Lownes was released at his residence, police said.

On Sunday, March 16, at 10:23 p.m. Kennett Square police cited a 17-year-old male from West Grove for underage drinking following a traffic stop at Route 82 and Leslie Lane. Juvenile was released to his parents, police said.

Kennett Square police detained Alfonso Gasca-Torres, 27, of Kennett Square for an outstanding bench warrant on Monday, March 17, at 5:35 p.m. in the 100 block West Mulberry Street. Gasca-Torres was released to a constable, police said.

Kennett Square police arrested Luis Carrillo-Avalos, 18, of Kennett Square for Possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop on Wednesday, March 19, at 8:48 p.m. in the 500 block South Union Street. Carrillo-Avalos was released pending summons from district court, police said.

Sometime overnight on Wednesday, March 19, a car stereo was stolen from a vehicle parked in the 700 block South Washington Street, police said.

Kennett Square Police cited Betty Brown, 51, of Kennett Square for Borough Ordinance 3-4(a) Prohibiting Pets to Run at Large following the report of her dog running loose in the 500 block Center Street, chasing people and other animals, police said.

Kennett Square Police cited Timothy Johnson, 20, West Grove for disorderly conduct and harassment for a fight that occurred in the 500 block South Union Street on Saturday, March 22, at 1:33 p.m., police said.

Kennett Square police arrested Pedro Avila-Lopez, 56, of Kennett Square for DUI following a traffic stop in the 500 block of West State Street. Avila-Lopez was released pending summons from district court, police said.

STATE POLICE AVONDALE

Someone broke the window of a car and stole a purse containing credit cards from London Tract road in London Grove Township on April 3 at 3 p.m., police said.

Charles Maurice Green, 23, of Coatesville was unhurt in a crash on Route 896 north of Parsons road in Franklin township on April 5 at 5:07 a.m. He lost control of his vehicle and struck a telephone pole, police said.

No injuries were reported in a crash on Oxford Road at Duck Farm Road on April 4 at 2:17 a.m. Kevin Havelow, 21, of Lincoln University lost control of is vehicle and struck a fence on the west side of Oxford Road. Havelow was not at the scene of the crash at the time of the investigation. It was learned later that he had walked home after the crash. Citations will be filed against Havelow, police said.

Ryan Maynes, 23, of Lincoln University lost control of his vehicle and struck a fence on the east side of Saginaw Road in New London Township on April 5 at 2:37 a.m. He was found to be intoxicated and was arrested and charged. Maynes reported that he had an injury to the back of his head. He was released to his father, police said.

Emmile Brin, 18, of Lincoln University was detained and processed for involvement in a theft in the 800 block of Commons Driove in Lower Oxford on April 3 at 2:15 p.m., police said.

Benjamin Travis, 34, of Prospect Park was arrested for possession of a controlled substance in the 100 block of Gleneig Faram Drive in East Marlborough Township on March 27 at 9 a.m., police said.

Brian Michael Feeney, 33, of Avondale was found intoxicated in a construction dumpster in the 800 block of East Baltimore Pike in East Marlborough Township on March 27 at 4:15 p.m., police said.

Marie Norbeck, 49, of Oxford was charged with DUI following a crash on route 10 north of Boyds Lane in Lower Oxford Townshp on March 21 at 5:35 a.m., police said.

Adam Zimmerman, 28, of Wilmington was arrested for DUI on Route 7 north of Southwood Road in New Garden Township on March 27 at 10:18 p.m., police said.

Someone entered an unlocked vehicle and removed items in the 100 block of Sunset Circle in Franklin Township on March 29 in the early morning hours, police said.
