Lawrence seeks reports on electric power in the snow

JENNESRVILLE – A public meeting will be held on Monday, April 7, during which residents can testify directly to Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC) officials about the lengthy loss of electric power Southern Chester County experienced in February due to one of the worst ice and snow storms in decades, Rep. John Lawrence (R-Chester) said today.

The meeting will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Penn Township Municipal Building in Jennersville, located at 260 Lewis Road, West Grove. Residents and local business owners who wish to speak at the meeting are asked to RSVP to Lawrence’s Jennersville office at (610) 869-1602.

“I received a number of calls and letters from individuals and businesses raising serious concerns about PECO’s response time and overall handling of the aftermath of the ice storm.”

Lawrence said. “I personally asked the Public Utility Commission to hold this meeting to hear from those who lost electric power during and immediately after the storm, some of whom were without electricity for a week or more,”

As electricity providers are subject to oversight by the PUC, Lawrence asked the agency to hold a hearing in Jennersville to hear directly from those who were adversely affected during the time period after the ice storm. This type of direct and candid feedback is helpful to the PUC in the consideration of future actions regarding electrical utilities.

The goal of the meeting is for participants to address, among other things, the following questions:

Did the customer’s electric utility satisfactorily communicate information about the storm and the service outages through methods such as the utility website, phone calls, texts, radio, television, print, or social media?

Did the customer’s electric utility satisfactorily provide timely and accurate information on the expected restoration time for their service outage?

Were customers able to call in to the electric utility to report outages without any difficulties?

Were customers able to call back and receive information on the expected restoration time for service outages?

Do residents have any suggestions for how the electric utilities could improve their communications to customers during large-scale service outages?
